Khao Yai

Khao Yai is a hilly area roughly located between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima. People come here to get away from the hot cities and on weekends it can get crowded. Over the years the area was really developed with high class resorts, golf courses and vine yards.

But for the people who don't own a condo here the draw to come here is the Khao Yai National Park, an area of 2,168 square kilometres that includes rain and evergreen forests as well as grasslands.the highest mountain in the park is Khao Rom with 1,351 m. It has a rich diversity of plants with around 2,000 species, around 300 bird species, 70 species of mammals and 74 species reptiles and amphibians.

Some common mammals include elephants, bears, gaurs, barking deer, otters, gibbons and macaques.

Khao Yai is part of the Dong-Phayayen - Khao Yai Forest Complex, a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO, covering 5 protected areas from Khao Yai to the Cambodian border.
